Scrum Masters Training

Scrum is one of the agile methods and as a project management methodology it very well complements agile engineering practices. We work in Scrum ourselves and we came to appreciate its simplicity and effectiveness. That's why we organize Certified Scrum Master trainings in Cracow.

The first CSM training organized by us took place in Cracow in September 2007. This year the dates will be 2&3rd of October. Below are all the details.

The training

This training prepares you for the role of Scrum Master - the guardian and facilitator of the Scrum process. Scrum Master is not a boss, is not a drill sergeant - he is more a coach, helping a team be as productive as it possibly can. To do that the Scrum Master applies the simple principles of Scrum and facilitates all the meetings and interactions Scrum calls for.

During the training you will learn:
  • why Scrum works the way it does - or why iterative, incremental approach works so well for software projects,
  • how to use Scrum's artifacts - Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, Burndown Chart, etc.,
  • what Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospectives and Daily Scrum are all about,
  • how to plan and estimate work,
  • how to lead and coach a self-organizing, adaptive project team,
  • how to communicate with your bosses (or clients) and with the team.

Most importantly, though, you will have a chance to participate in practical exercises with other participants. You will build a backlog, prioritize it, and learn to put the theory into practice.

At the successful completion of your training you will get certified as a CSM and you'll get your membership in the Scrum Alliance (certification fee included in the course price).

Please note that the language of the course and materials is English. No translation will be provided.
Please also note that based on the practice so far participation in this training gives you 16 PDU units towards your PMI certificate extension. Ask for details.

The trainer

Our training will be led by Nigel Baker from the UK.

Nigel's background includes being a Developer in both traditional and Scrum teams, and a Project Manager or a Scrum Master on many projects across the IT sector. He has helped lead the agile transformation within British Telecom, arguably the largest agile transformation in the world so far, giving him plenty of experience in implementing Scrum (and agile methods at general) in a large, complex environment. That makes Nigel uniquely positioned to discuss Agile both on a small scale, and in a huge distributed enterprise; to truly step beyond theory and into real practical direction and vision.

Nigel is a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer and he is currently spreading the agile approach by coaching and training companies in Scrum and other agile methods.

The location

The course will take place in Cracow, Poland.

Cracow is one of the most beautiful cities in the EU's eastern part. Some consider it to be equal in its beauty to Prague, just (still) less crowded. Undoubtedly the prime tourist destination in Poland, it offers unmatched historical and architectural heritage as well as lively and interesting nightlife. It is a city well worth a visit on its own and we are sure that even after an exhaustive day at our training you'll want to walk around and see what it has to offer.

Getting there is quite easy with both regular and cheap airlines flying to Balice Airport from major European capitals. You can also fly to Katowice airport - most airlines operating flights there  provide buses to Cracow. A highway links Cracow with Germany through the region of Silesia (Śląsk), making getting there by car an option to consider. There are also trains from Warsaw (almost every hour), Berlin and Vienna.

When planning your journey to Cracow allow 45 minutes to 1h for getting from the airport to the city center.

If you are planning to travel from outside of Cracow to participate please let us know when reserving your place, we'll help you with accommodation. You can also review this list of hotels in Cracow and reserve yourself. Just make sure to do it in advance - as this is a busy tourist destination hotels tend to be full, even in early October.
